The Flora Brown Award provides $10,000 for selected students entering as new matriculants and has a 2.75 grade point average requirement in order for the scholarship to be renewed in a subsequent year. The award is good for up to eight semesters of full time enrollment (nine if in a 4.5 year program of study) and will be renewed automatically as long as recipients continue to make satisfactory progress toward a degree and the GPA requirement, if applicable. Flora Brown was the first student to register for the Ithaca Conservatory of Music, signing up on September 19, 1892.

Updated November 10, 2011 12:35 PM CST: A second member of a Missouri prison gang pleads guilty to a brutal assault in Joplin.Two known members of the Joplin Honkies will head back to prison after beating and torturing a Joplin man. Officers say in May 2010 Phillip Ivy, 46, was stabbed in the thigh and foot, his finger had been cut off, and several of the bones in his face broken. Prosecutors say Ivy was so badly beaten he was unable to speak for months after the assault.Two men were charged in the case.Last month, Christopher Davenport received a 17 year sentence for the assault.This week, the second suspect, Joren Clay, pled guilty to first degree assault and armed criminal action.
